Lubuntu: A minha alternativa ao Windows XP
Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP and since today you are on your own without security updates and vulnerable, so maybe it’s time to change to something more recent.
If you still have an old computer maybe it will not support Windows 7 or Windows 8, so what to do now?
Like a lot of you I still have my old laptop and my old desktop, both are at my parents and I don’t use them a lot but when I do I want to do it safely, the Desktop is Pentium 3 with 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and 120GB of disk (yes this thing is still alive after 14 years) the Laptop is Centrino with 1.6 GHz, 512MB of RAM and with a home SSD with 8GB.
A Microsoft deixou de suportar o Windows XP e desde hoje estás por tua conta ao continuares a utilizar este sistema, sem mais actualizações de segurança estás mais vulnerável a ataques informáticos. Talvez seja a altura certa para mudares para um sistema mais recente.
Se ainda utilizas computadores antigos talvez não consigas fazer a migração para Windows 7 ou Windows 8, mas a solução não tem de ser abandonares o teu velho equipamento.
Como muitos de vocês eu ainda utilizo as minhas máquinas antigas, no meu caso um desktop e um portátil, são ambos usados muito esporadicamente mas mesmo assim não quero ter que me preocupar com questões de segurança.

Apesar de serem velhas ambas as máquinas correm muito bem Lubuntu, o sistema operativo que escolhi para substituir o Windows XP.

A Pentium II or Celeron system with 128 MB of RAM is probably a bottom-line configuration that may yield slow yet usable system with a reduced lubuntu desktop.
Lubuntu 13.10 32 bit requires a CPU with Physical Address Extensions, or PAE. “PAE is provided by Intel Pentium Pro and above CPUs, including all later Pentium-series processors (except most 400 MHz-bus versions of the Pentium M).”
Um Pentium II ou Celeron com 128MB de RAM é o minimo, pode ficar lento mas é usável.
O Lubuntu 13.10 32bits precisa de um processador que suporte PAE (Physical Address Extensions) que está disponível nos Pentium Pro e processadores superiors excluíndo a maioria das versões de 400MHz do Pentium M.

Lubunto follow the same update rules from Ubuntu, each April and November they will release a new version of the system.
